London have embraced cyclists, with TfL planning new strategic cycling routes across the city, there are even more places to explore. TfL are committed to making cycling priority, increasing the physical fitness of Londoners. In fact study has shown that if Londoner’s cycled everyday for 20 minutes, their health would improve enough to save the NHS £1.7 billion. As cycling has become part of London culture, there are some amazing bike cafes that have opened in town. Not only do they provide delicious food and drink, and a great atmosphere for cyclists. Here are four of the most treasured cafes in town.
Rapha Cycle Club
Rapha in Brewer Street, Soho has been open for 6 years. The Love London Tour organised by the London Bicycle Tour Company takes you right through this vibrant area whilst on your three hour journey. If you are exploring the capital on your bike, pop in for one of Rapha’s delicious deli style sandwiches (the roast pork is a favourite), as well as a variety of hot and cold drinks. The cafe prides itself on immersing cyclists in the sport, you can catch up on races on television, have a chat about the best bicycle for you, and meet other like minded people.
Pedal Back Cafe
Pedal Back has five star Tripadvisor and Facebook reviews. The cafe is centred in Tooting Market and offers some of the best breakfasts in the area. Homemade spiced baked beans, poached eggs, sourdough toast and the popular pancake stacks. The Guinness and chocolate cake is a house favourite, and there is a nice selection of espresso, to fuel you before you get back on the road
London Velo
London Velo Cafe, on Deptford High Street, SE8, is both dog and bicycle friendly, and is great for Brick Lane bagels. There is freshly ground coffee available and if you don’t fancy a triple bacon bagel, there are plenty of options for vegetarians and vegans. The vegan lunch, which includes falafel, hummus and avocado is very reasonably priced.
Look Mum No Hands!
Based on Back Church Street, Whitechapel, the LMNH Kitchen is open every day of the week. They have a delicious menu, including burgers and salads, and are fully licensed. There is a great range of craft beers to choose from, at the end of a long ride. There are always some interesting events going on too, from the Bicycle Life Drawing Class, to Cycle Speed Dating, for 25-40 year olds looking for love (and someone who loves bikes)!
Pop in for repairs
If you need any repairs, even if it’s to sort out a puncture, whilst on your tour of London cycle cafes, pop into the London Bicycle Repair Shop at Benson House, Hatfields, SE1 8DQ. If it is a small problem, they offer a great Quik Fix service, repairing your bike while you wait, and have a coffee. They can also offer you bike hire, whilst your bicycle is being repaired.
London is a haven for cyclists, you can tour the city and enjoy some great food and drink on the way. There are some amazing cafes across the capital, not only offering sustenance, but also good company and delicious coffee to London’s cycling community.
