A group of determined activists who are “motivated by indignation but united by hope” are making a three-week, 760 mile journey by bike from Copenhagen to Paris this November. The reason? Climate Change.
If you didn’t know already, there is a huge Climate Conference (COP21) taking place in Paris this December, which aims to achieve a universal agreement and positive action towards keeping global warming below 2°C. Global leaders from business, government, finance and NGOs will attend, and there’s real pressure to make progress this time after the disappointingly ineffective outcome of COP15 in 2009.
The stakes are high and the climate campaigners are going to be out in force. This particular group of activists are making their point using pedal power. The idea behind Cooperide, is to gather as many people as possible to ride together and demonstrate that dependence on fossil fuels is a choice not a necessity, that alternatives are possible and that the commitment to change is strong.
Are you cycling fiends feeling fired up enough to join in with Cooperide now? If so, you too can make a stand against Climate Change and be part of something special. Just get on a bike and ride along with them! Even if you can’t make the entire ride from Copenhagen to Paris, you can join the route anywhere along the way, perhaps starting in Brussels after an quick Eurostar ride from the UK, or maybe Hamburg if you have a little more time and energy spare. There’s even the option of joining a tag team, where pairs share the cycling – spend one day on the bike and hitchhike or travel by train the other day.
And don’t let not having a suitable bike stop you! We have all the kit you would need for hire at affordable prices. Take a look at our range of bikes available here. What are you waiting for? Join the Cooperide movement and show the world that cycling and sustainable energy is the only way forward.
The Cooperide sets off from Copenhagen on the 14th November and intends to arrive in Paris by the 5th December.
