There’s nothing more rewarding after a summer’s cycle ride through the city than a cooling beverage or some belly-warming munch in one of London’s many open air beer gardens and rooftops. Weather permitting of course.

If your cycle route takes you into South London there are two great options for some wholesome food, a chilled vibe and ice cold drinks. The Duke of Edinburgh in Brixton may look modest from the outside but once you step inside you find a spacious cosy pub with vintage furniture, pool table, board games and hearty meals, making it a great winter venue. But come summer, the garden is the real draw here. Step outside and enter a vast, leafy backyard with the smell of BBQ wafting lazily towards you to tantalise your taste buds. One could while away a whole afternoon in the calm serenity deep in the heart of Brixton.

For a more trendy vibe and a killer view of London you should make the trip to Frank’s Bar in Peckham. The food is always top notch with interesting twists on classic dishes but what you really come for is the panoramic view from the top of the multi-storey car park that Frank’s calls home. If you’re feeing especially energetic you can even ride your bike up to the top and enjoy the free wheeling down at the end of your night. For the lazier among us there’s a lift to take you up. 

If your cycling takes you central, amongst the towering the skyscrapers of the city it’s worth whizzing skywards in one of said towers, to visit Sushisamba, even if just for the breath taking view and heart-stopping lift ride. Located on the 38th and 39th  floor of The Heron Tower in Bishopsgate this classy joint boasts the highest outoor dining terraces in Europe and a dazzling menu of Japanese, Brazilian and Peruvian fusion. Sample the food or just relax with a drink while you take in the 360 degree views of our fabulous city.

For those exploring north London, a summer cycle ride round the gorgeously overgrown Hampstead Heath can be finished off in style at the Garden Gate, a beautiful19th century pub with draught lagers and real ales to quench post-cycle thirst, traditional homecooked pub food and a beer garden heralded as one of the best London has to offer. It will feel like you never left the Heath once you wander into the pub garden.
